Covington’s Own Fools & Jewels of Misrule

foolsofmisruleCovington’s newest Krewe, the St. John’s Fools of Misrule, was created after noting the absence of a Twelfth Night festival in the Northshore area. Their first parade was in 2012, and have since doubled their membership with now about 150 costumed marchers. This is due in part by their inclusion of women in the march, known as “Jewels of Misrule”. The march will be held January 12th, the Saturday after Twelfth Night, in the true tradition of Fools. The celebrations begin with a Feast of Fools at the Columbia Street Tap Room from 4 – 6 pm. At 6 they begin the march, heading over to the Trailhead from 6:30 – 7, and then stopping by the Boston Pub, Buster’s Place and the Green Room from 7 – 8 pm. From there they make their way to Winos and Tacos from 8 – 8:30 and Columbia Street Rock N Blues for 8:30 – 9. These times are approximate, of course.

Merrymaking will include cowbells, masks, costumes and flambeaux. All masked merrymakers are encouraged to participate as Covington ushers in the Carnival season.
