St. Tammany Art Association Presents "Summer Show" the 48th National Juried Artists ExhibitionThe St. Tammany Art Association announces the 48th National Juried Artists Exhibition, the Summer Show, which opens July 13th with a reception from 6 to 9 pm. Artists’ awards will be presented at 7 pm. Just 42 artists were selected for this year’s exhibition, including 17 from St. Tammany Parish. Other artists accepted into the show come from across Louisiana and the southeast, plus Illinois, California, Georgia, New Jersey and New Mexico. Open to artists from all over the United States, the St. Tammany Art Association’s annual juried exhibition is one of the most diverse in the state of Louisiana, featuring only visual art completed within the past two years.

This year, $2,500 in cash awards including the coveted $1,000 Best of Show prize will be presented at the opening. The Art Association is pleased to have five award sponsors for this year’s show. Once again the Best of Show award sponsor is Carlos Sanchez. STAA will also present a $500 award for two-dimensional work sponsored by Trudy Williamson in memory of her husband, E.L. “Chick” Williamson, a $250 award for photography sponsored by board member Roberta D. Bruck, Ph.D. This year, Covington sculptor Maggie McConnell is being welcomed to the sponsor’s circle, recipient of an award in the 2010 Summer Show, with her $250 award for three-dimensional work, and Henry and Gail Hood of Henry Hood Gallery, whose $500 sponsorship will be presented for two Special Merit awards.

The juror for the 2013 Summer Show is Mary Hardy, Curator for the Duckett Gallery at The Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center for Arts and Education in Ocean Springs, MS. She is a 2013 recipient of the Visual Arts Fellowship for the State of Mississippi from the Mississippi Arts Commission and was honored with one of two Artists of the Year for 2005 by the Mississippi Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
