St. Tammany Municipal Association (STMA) – Installation of New Officers

On Wednesday, January 15th, the St. Tammany Municipal Association held their first 2014 meeting where new officers were sworn in:

President – Mayor Mike Cooper, City of Covington

Vice President – Alderman Donald Burris, Village of Folsom

Secretary – Alderman Gina Kilpatrick Harper, Town of Abita Springs

Treasurer – Councilman-At-Large Lee S. Alexius, City of Covington

STMA membership includes the Town of Abita Springs, City of Covington, Village of Folsom, Town of Madisonville, City of Mandeville, Town of Pearl River, City of Slidell, and Village of Sun. The purpose of STMA is to promote and protect the rights and interests of cities, towns and villages of St. Tammany Parish, assisting in solving problems that are common to these municipalities, and working together in securing the enactment of beneficial laws for the general good of St. Tammany parish and its municipalities.

“As President, I am responsible for maintaining a progressive and cooperative relationship with the Louisiana Municipal Association, state officials, and the St. Tammany Parish government. Additionally, my plans are to provide guest speakers and programs that are informative, enjoyable, and beneficial to our local municipal officials,” Mayor Mike Cooper, STMA President.

The STMA meets quarterly throughout the eight municipalities. January’s meeting was hosted by the Town of Abita Springs. Guest speakers were Louisiana Department of Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain DVM, who touched upon the history of his hometown, Abita Springs, and Louisiana Municipal Association Executive Director Ronnie Harris (former Mayor of Gretna), who presented a brief overview of his new role as LMA Executive Director, focusing on his goals and objectives for LMA.
