Grieving the loss of a pet is a normal response and a very individual one. Bonnie Poirier, ordained minister for the Ministry of St. Francis of Assisi, offers her counseling and personal guidance to the Pet Grief and Support Meeting at the St. Tammany Humane Society every first Saturday of the month at 9 a.m. Those who have experienced the loss of a dear animal companion can meet and share their experiences with others in an important part of the healing process.

Bonnie moderates the meetings, and stresses that “the loss of a pet is not something that needs to be hidden or ashamed of and support is available.” Discussions are guided towards understanding and healing grief, sometimes including journaling, drawing or meditation, depending on the individual and their preferred healing method.
