Last Weekend To Catch “The Trip to Bountiful” – Playmaker’s Enters 59th Season of Theater With A Hit

Trip to Bountiful Playmakers
Allen Bryant (Sheriff) and Elizabeth Pfeffer Williams (Mrs. Watts) on the set of “The Trip to Bountiful” at Playmakers Theater

Playmakers Community Theater opens their 59th season with “The Trip to Bountiful”. Stepping outside their mainstay of musicals and comedy, first time director Derek Thrush does a wonderful job with this dramatic rendition of Horton Foote’s classic, pulling out emotional depths from some of our favorite local talent. Long standing actress and supporter of Playmakers Elizabeth Pfeffer Williams (I Hate Hamlet, Annie, & Bell, Book & Candle) shines in the lead role of Mrs. Watts, an aging widow remorseful of her past mistakes and unfulfilled in her current situation. She lives with her overbearing daughter-in-law played by Deborah Marcelle (Almost, Maine) and caring, but detached son Ludie played by Cary Martin (Moon Over Buffalo & Lend Me A Tenor), far away from her beloved Bountiful, symbolic of a simpler time in life. With an innovative set that creates a seamless flow, you won’t want to miss a beat as this play builds to its climax – will Mrs. Watts make it to Bountiful, and what will happen when she gets there?
