This Week at the Covington Farmer’s Market by Charlene LeJeune

Wed Farmers Market signHi, friends and happy almost Thanksgiving! Don’t let that dreary scene outside your window get you down; we have a lovely day planned for tomorrow. So if you are beginning to be stressed by the thought of holiday shopping, join us for a delicious lunch and let the music and the warm sunshine soothe those cares away.

Get ready to enjoy the intense flavor of Nanette’s creamy vegetable soup tomorrow. Soooo delicious but you may have difficulty deciding between it and her butternut squash bisque. (Hint: bring home a pint of each for later in the week.) Jeff promises to have baked apples to go with his pulled pork. A whole muffaletta will certainly last til the end of the week and you won’t have to worry about what to fix while you’re Black Friday shopping. Kandi’s chicken porridge goes a long way to satisfying an empty tummy. One of Frankie’s delicious banana, pumpkin, or blueberry bread will be welcomed at any Thanksgiving table. Top your dessert with some of Natalie’s strawberries – surprisingly sweet for this time of year. Don’t forget Nanette’s slaw salads or veggies from Natalie and Mr. Houston for your side dishes. (Yes, Collins, even vegans must have “side” dishes.)

Saturday will roll around and you’ll be tempted to sleep in. Black Friday can be exhausting. But…we’ll have 70 degrees of sunshine, deep blue skies, smiling faces – how can you resist? Get a fresh cup of coffee and enjoy the music of Zac Maris. AND, as a refreshing change from leftovers, Chomper’s BBQ will have their grill rig at the market for the cooking demo this week. Can’t wait, can you?

Take your time as you stroll around the market. It’s a great time to visit with the vendors and make your list of what you would like to have over the next month – you know Christmas parties, football games, holiday treats for the office, gifts…

Our hearts are thankful for the kids whose laughter wafts through our market, for the blend of wares that makes our market unique, for our vendors who are here rain or shine, but mostly we are very thankful for you, our faithful patrons who show up week after week. Please have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Lots of love,
Charlene LeJeune
