“I Got Caught… Wearing My Seatbelt” CPD Safety Campaign

CPD Seatbelt CampaignLast Wednesday, the Covington Police Department kicked off their annual “I Got Caught” seat belt campaign at Covington High School.  Covington Police Officers and St. Tammany Parish Public School System Superintendent Trey Folse checked students as they left campus to make sure they were wearing their seat belts, except this wasn’t your usual checkpoint. Instead of writing tickets to the kids without seat belts, t-shirts were given to those that were.  The t-shirts say “I Got Caught” on the front and “wearing my seatbelt” on the back.

The goal set with this program is to remind kids how important it is to wear their seatbelts, and to do so in a positive way.  The hope is that handing out shirts instead of tickets will show our children that police really are here to protect them and have their best interest in mind. Wearing your seatbelt anytime you’re on the road is one of the most important things you can do to protect yourself.

We are fortunate to have such a wonderful business community in Covington. This campaign wouldn’t have been possible without donations from some of our local establishments.  All of the shirts given out today were purchased with donations from Sheriff Jack Strain, Vanderbrook & Son A/C and Heating, the Covington Business Association, Brown Family Orthodontics, TASS Brain Injury Rehab Center, Lake 94.7, Mellow Mushroom, Heritage Bank, LA Logos & Promos, Covington FOP Lodge #43, and Vantage Point Spine & Sports Rehab. Thank you to all of our sponsors for helping invest in the safety of our youth!          www.covla.com
