CPD Announces Internet Safe Zone

Chief Tim Lentz announces that the Covington Police Department has established a new “Internet Purchase Exchange Location” inside the lobby of the police department, 212 E. Kirkland St. The safe zone was created to address safety concerns when making Internet based purchases and meeting in person to conduct the transaction.

The exchange location is available to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The police department lobby is located to the left of the council chambers on Kirkland St. Individuals utilizing the safe zone do not need to have an officer present and the area is monitored by video surveillance at all times.

The Covington Police Department encourages the use of this area by residents anytime they conduct Internet-based transactions as an added safety measure. Meeting a stranger at the police department, as opposed to someone’s home, or an unmonitored parking lot, is a much safer way to do business.
