Meet the Covington Police Department

In an effort to introduce our local police officers to the community and provide an opportunity for the CPD to highlight their outstanding officers, Covington Weekly profiles are provided by Chief Tim Lentz of the Covington Police Department.

IMG_5633(2)Richelle Sharp is a 1984 graduate of Covington High School where she played softball and basketball.  She was raised on a working family dairy where she still currently resides, raising cows and chickens.  After high school, Richelle joined the U.S. Navy.
While in the Navy, stationed at Groton, Connecticut, Richelle met her husband.  They would later have two boys,  one of which has blessed her with a grand-daughter.  Richelle began her law enforcement career at the Covington Police Department in May of 1992.  She began as a communications operator then decided she would be happier outside working and assisting the community, so she gained her qualifications and became a street officer.  Unfortunately a serious car accident directed her back into the office and back into the radio room, where she would excel, becoming a certified communications instructor, training the new dispatchers.

Chances are, if you call the Police Department, or if you have an emergency and call 911, you will get Richelle’s pleasant voice on the other end.  She is one of our most senior officers, and plays a vital role in the safety of our officers out on the street.
