Second Saturday Art Walk This Weekend

Visit Covington’s local galleries and merchants on the second Saturday of each month for coordinated art openings throughout historic downtown Covington.  Here is a list of participants for this Saturday, March 11, 2017:

Saladino Gallery, features various works on display by local artists.  The Lacombe Art Guild Spring Exhibit is at Heritage Bank of St. Tammany, with a members show, reception and awards.  Demelo Fine Art is at Columbia Coworking LLC, showing works of various artists.  The Rolland Golden Gallery, is showing the works of Rolland Golden.  The St. Tammany Art Association, hosts an Opening Reception of the Members Gallery Exhibition. Tripolo Gallery, features various works on display by gallery artists.  Rutland St. Gallery, will also have works on display by gallery artists.

Discussion and Demonstration of Abstraction with Ralph Townsend at STAA On Sunday  This Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the Miriam Barranger Gallery, Ralph Townsend, one of the exhibiting artists in “Conversations with Abstraction”, discusses and demonstrates working abstractly.  Townsend’s lecture will focus on the inspiration behind his landscape abstractions and his working methods.  He will also demonstrate his process of working with a combination media including watercolor, pastel and sumi ink stick on paper.  The event is open to the public, admission is free.

STAA’s Spring For Art Takes Place April 8, 2017  Spring For Art, one of the biggest fundraisers for the St. Tammany Art Association, is less than a month away, taking place on Saturday, April 8, 2017, from 6 p.m. To 9 p.m.  This year, the Mix Masters competition takes place on New Hampshire Street near Gulf Coast Bank and Del Porto, and Amedee Frederick cranks out the blues with his authentic New Orleans sound.  Stop in at the Green Room to see Jay Webert on stage, with local art to browse.  Down towards the landing, the Foreman Brothers bring you classic covers and more on Columbia Street near Heritage Bank of St. Tammany, the Dojo and Paradise on Columbia.

There is a special treat for parents at this year’s Spring For Art.  South Lee Lane will feature activities scheduled throughout the night just for kids, so walk on over and check it out!  While you’re there, enjoy the mellow folk sounds and soothing vocals of acoustic performer Valley Rich at South Lee Lane.  N. Lee Lane features Stone Indian, rocking out near Meribo.  Acoustic duo Hill Country performs on the 400 block of Columbia Street, and Cassie Krebs performs at the Art Association.  Look for the STAA Brochures for the official line-up!         sttammanyartassociation.org
