City Obtains Reduction In Flood Insurance Premiums

Mayor Mike Cooper is pleased to announce that effective October 1, 2017, the City of Covington will join the Community Rating System (CRS), a program administered by FEMA that gives discounts to flood insurance policyholders in communities that exemplify excellence in floodplain management. Covington’s entry into the CRS program has been approved by FEMA and will provide a 5% reduction in flood insurance premiums for each individual policyholder. This will save policyholders throughout the city of Covington approximately $33,000 per year total in flood insurance premiums.

“Acceptance into this program will enable residents across the city to reap the reward of lower flood insurance premiums. I would like to thank Covington’s Floodplain Administrator, Chris Brown, CFM, for all of his hard work in compiling the information for the application and gaining approval into the program. I am proud that my administrative staff shares my passion to better the lives of our citizens” stated Mayor Mike Cooper.
