Parish Jail & Justice Tax Request

Parish Jail & Justice Tax Request

Opinion by B. Charles Goodwin

The STP Jail and Justice tax request has been based on “Operating and Maintaining facilities”.
THAT’S BLATANTLY FALSE. It’s also to “acquire land” and “construction” and “fund into bonds.”
Here’s the request to the La Bond Commission (the BOLD CAPS are mine for Emphasis).
The Parish Council proposes:
( 1 ) 1 / 5 % s a l e s t a x , 1 0 y e a r s , beginning A p r i l 1 , 2 0 1 8

(a) acquiring, CONSTRUCTING, improving, operating and maintaining the Justice Center Complex (including continuing operations for similar facilities in eastern St. Tammany) and including ACQUISITION OF LAND, equipment and furnishings;
(b) addressing mental and behavioral health by providing at least 10% for operation of the 22nd Judicial District Specialty Courts, including but not limited to, the Behavioral Heal Court, ReEntry Court, Adult Drug Court, Juvenile Drug Court, Sobriety Court, Veterans Court and Family Preservation Court and
(c) FUNDING INTO BONDS; (2) 1/5% sales tax, 10 years, beginning April 1, 2018, (a) ACQUIRING, CONSTRUCTION IMPROVING operating and maintaining jail facilities to incarcerate prisoners, including the ACQUISITION OF LAND, equipment and furnishings and (b) FUNDING INTO BONDS.
Brister and the Council have lied to the public once again I’m not going to vote for lies and misrepresentations. I hope you do not either. – B. Charles Goodwin, Mandeville
