Keep Covington Beautiful will celebrate Louisiana Arbor Day with the annual tree give-away at the Covington Farmers Market on Saturday, January 13, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until noon, or until the seedlings are all given away. A variety of native bare-root seedlings will be available – Pond Cypress, Shumard Oak, Wafer Ash, American Snowbell, Arrowwood Viburnum, Wild Olive and River Birch. Volunteers are needed to help wrap the seedlings & hand them out. If you are interested in helping, please email email@example.com. Information about two new projects will be available. The Covington Tree Board & KCB will kick off the Landmark Tree Program. Residents are invited to apply for Landmark status for their trees. Individual trees, groups of trees or forested areas that meet one or more criteria for age, size, species, form, character, history, location, or association with an historic event, person, or landmark will be reviewed by the Tree Board for this designation. Applications and more information are available at covla.com/residents/covingtontreeboard. Keep Covington Beautiful began the Live Oak Tree Preservation Project in partnership with the City of Covington in December. KCB members will be on hand to explain the project purpose, work being done and how to get involved with preserving the city’s Live Oaks. Join Keep Covington Beautiful in the celebration of the natural beauty that surrounds us, which we too often take for granted.
