Meet the Covington Police Department

In an effort to introduce our local police officers to the

community and provide an opportunity for the Covington

Police Department to highlight their outstanding officers,

Covington Weekly profiles are provided by Chief Tim Lentz.

Sgt. David “Woody” Woodruff has been employed with the

Covington Police Dept for the past 8 years. Before

working for the CPD, Woody spent 15 years with the

Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. He grew up in Harahan

and graduated from Brother Martin. He attended

Northwestern University studying Political Science. During

his time with the Covington Police Department he was worked

as a patrol officer, detective, field training officer, and

currently holds the position of Sergeant supervising the

activities of a patrol shift.

In addition, Woody also handles scheduling all of the off

duty details that take place in the City. In his off time

he enjoys traveling and polishing his skill as a certified

pilot. He is currently working towards his aerobatic

certification.
