NHS Update: 130 Animals Find Forever Homes

A plea for help brings forever homes to 130 homeless animals at Northshore Humane Society
Covington, LA – On Saturday, August 18th, Northshore Humane Society was one of 900 shelters across the nation to offer fee-waived adoptions for all adoptable dogs and cats at their rescue. The event took place at the no-kill facility in Covington and was part of the organization’s “clear the shelters” initiative that began August 1st when the shelter hit maximum capacity.
In a statement earlier this month, Northshore Humane Society CEO, Scott Bernier explained the situation. “While our adoptions are going about the same pace, homeless animals are coming in at a faster speed than we can get them into forever homes. As a result, we have kennels that are double and tripled up.”

On August 1st, NHS began a “clear the shelters” adoption campaign offering reduced adoptions fees and on Saturday, August 18th the shelter offered fee-waived adoptions for all adoptable dogs and cats at the rescue. The day also featured food trucks, animal–related vendors, activities and much more all on-site.
Since the beginning of the initiative, over 130 rescue animals at Northshore Humane Society have found a forever family and a home to call their own. “I couldn’t be more proud and grateful for my team, supporters and to all who have adopted,” added Bernier.
