Young Qualifies For Covington City Council District A

Local community activist and longtime Covington resident, Keitisha Young, has qualified for the Covington City Council’s District A position in the March 2019 election.
Young, a Covington native and graduate of Covington High School, attended Howard University in Washington DC and was Business Administration/ Organizational Leadership Candidate for Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH. Young’s previous work experience includes the volunteer coordinator for St. Tammany Parish Habitat for Humanity and the Transportation Community Service Assessor for Council on Aging St. Tammany (COAST), among other administrative roles both locally and in Maryland.

Young serves on the City of Covington Board of Adjustments, The St. Tammany Parish Fair Association and is a commissioner for the Elections Department. She previously organized food efforts for the victims of the March 2016 floods to neighborhoods in Covington affected by the disaster and has been active with the West 30s Redemption Group. Young is currently an organizer of the 2nd annual West 30s Community Block Party to take place this coming April. When Kennetha Johnson, the head chairperson of the Community Block Party was asked about Keitisha’s help and involvement, she stated,

“Keitisha not only feels passionate about her district, she feels responsible in making sure that it is properly cared for. Like a mother for her child, Young can’t help but want to make sure that her residents are tended to and represented. S he is truly genuine and the people that live there are like extended family to her. The current District A councilman, John Callahan, not only endorses Young, he unofficially appointed her to take his place on the council, and that speaks volumes to her character and work ethic.”

When asked why she wanted to be on the City of Covington Council, Young answered without hesitation: “I want to make sure that the residents in my district are getting allocated the same resources as the other districts within the City of Covington. I want to give the people that live there more of a voice.”

Young is the mother of 2, Adia a senior Criminal Justice major, and Brianna, a sophomore in Psychology/ pre-med, and currently resides in Covington. The election for the City of Covington Council is March 30, 2019 with early voting beginning on March 16th.
