Mayor Cooper Appoints Culotta to Chief of Police

Mayor Mike Cooper is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen Culotta as Police Chief for the City of Covington.  Stephen, who is a member of the Covington Police Department for over twenty (20) years, replaces Chief Tim Lentz who resigned in October to pursue other opportunities. As Deputy Chief, Culotta has led the CPD since Lentz’s departure.
During his tenure with CPD, Stephen has progressed in earning promotions in rank with increased duties and responsibilities culminating with his appointment as Deputy Chief by then Chief Lentz in 2017.  He has consistently demonstrated a wide range of leadership abilities and has built strong relationships with the residents and business owners in our community.

Chief Culotta is uniquely qualified to hold this top appointed position with the City of Covington, having earned over thirty (30) Police Service certifications and local merit/service awards during his career.
“I am confident that Chief Culotta will build upon the foundation and culture established over the past several years with the continued commitment to maintain safety in our community” said Mayor Cooper.
The Covington City Council approved Mayor Cooper’s appointment of Culotta at its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.
