Food, entertainment, community resources and fun featured in upcoming West 30’s Community Block Party The Second Annual West 30s Community Block Party will be held in the historic West 30s neighborhood, Saturday, April 13th from 1 – 5 p.m. at Peter Atkins Park, 701 N. Tyler Street, Covington. Featured will be a food, music, bike safety talk & bike raffle by Brooks Bicycle (1:30 p.m.), tri-church talent show (2:00 p.m.), one-mile fun run/walk (3:30 p.m.) and community organizations staffing tables. The entire event, including food and fun run entry, is free and open to the public. A STEM summer camp scholarship and raffle prize (entry for event/community feedback) winners will be announced.
Community organizations include activities and resources of interest to children and adults. On hand to answer questions and provide community information will be: Safe Harbor, LA Workforce Commission, Covington Foodbank & Dental Clinic, NAAP, voter registration volunteers, NAMI, Covington Police Department, Covington Fire Department, West 30s Redemption Company, Habitat for Humanity, Christ Temple Church, Greater Starlight Baptist Church, Be Smart gun safety, United Way, the Women’s Center for Healing and Transformation, Eracism and AlAnon.
Children can explore and learn with Love More Hot Yoga, Covington Karate, MUSE stage & screen, “Snake Man”, St Tammany Parish Library, Northshore Technical Community College, “Handy Andy” Apiaries, St Tammany Art Association, Deryl’s Children’s Book Giveaway, CEEP summer camp, Boys & Girls Club, court sports and more.
