NHS Help A hound adoption event a Success

Northshore Humane Society partnered with Mortgage Gumbo along with several other sponsors for their first annual Help-A-Hound event, and the result couldn’t have been better! On Saturday, November 2, 2019, ten dogs found happy homes at the inaugural event held at Barley Oak. Surrounded by food and drink specials, great music and Mandeville’s beautiful lakefront, many families found the perfect pup theyve been searching for and made sure they never spend another night in a shelter.
Thanks to the support and contributions from Mortgage Gumbo and long-time supporter, Jennifer Lacoste, adoptions were completed at reduced costs to the adopters. The shelter thanks our amazing community and sponsors for changing the lives of these dogs forever.

NHS Pet of the Week

Meet Travis! He is now the longest resident at our shelter.  Travis, alongside 30+ other dogs, was rescued from a severe hoarding case. Although we were not allowed in the single-wide trailer, it was estimated that 100 dogs were residing inside. As you can imagine, their interaction with humans was minimal, causing extreme behavior challenges for our staff and potential adopters.  Two years later, we are so happy to report that the most severe of the group have found loving, patient forever homes. All of our focus has now turned to Travis.

Our staff has been working with Travis, walking him around our rescue to meet different kinds of people and recently he made it to his very first adoption event! We know there is someone out there – a patient, gentle and loving person who will give this amazing pup his second chance.
