St. Paddy’s Parade & Celebration 2020

With Mardi Gras season upon us, The Covington Celtic Club is busy at work planning and preparing for Covington’s next big party… St. Patrick’s Day! The 4th Annual St. Patrick’s Parade and Celebration takes place on Saturday, March 14th at 12pm at the Columbia St. Tap Room, winding throughout downtown Covington and concluding with a block party in front of Jewel’s Cigar & Briar on the corner of Rutland and New Hampshire St.
In addition to its excitement over the traditional parade offerings of 100+ members passing out paper flowers in exchange for a kiss and other Irish throws, bagpipers, Irish dancers & wolfhounds, St. Paul’s Marching Wolves, The Mandemilkshakers and several other marching groups parading through our historic streets… Covington Celtic Club is especially excited to announce its 2020 Grand Marshal, Ryan Schimpf!
After winning the 2009 College World Series with LSU and being selected for the All-Tournament Team, Schimpf made his debut in MLB baseball in 2016 with the San Diego Padres and was named National League Rookie of the month just one month into his MLB career hitting 20 Home Runs in his first MLB season. Schimpf recently ended his career with the Los Angeles Angels and currently resides in Covington with his wife and 2 children where he is a licensed mortgage advisor with Angel Oak Home Loans.
Nick Ludwig, parade chairman and Covington Celtic Club president explained, “We are thrilled to have Ryan Schimpf back in our community and representing the Covington Celtic Club. He was an alumni of St. Paul’s, (who also marches in our parade) so it’s really cool to have someone who went out into the world and played baseball at the professional level then return home and represent our community like this.”

The block party taking place at parade end will have lots of free, family fun to keep the celebration going! Immediately following parade end, The Kilts of Many Colors Bagpipers will play, local favorite Mande Milkshakers will do a quick performance with their dj and then closing out the day, the band, Zita (formerly Next Gen V) who recently played at Tipitina’s… will be playing until block party end at 5pm. The event is free but there will be food and drinks available for purchase. Local restaurant, Sweet Daddy’s BBQ will be selling food at the block party and the Budweiser Tap Truck will be out with plenty of craft and domestic beer along with DelPorto who will be selling their famous martinis and other drinks.
So, embrace your Irish Heritage (even if you are just pretending for the day)… wear your green and Erin Go Bragh! Revel in our historic streets, celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and see how our restaurants, local businesses, and shops throw a celebration to remember! More information online at
