Rockin’ the Rails June 25th CANCELLED

Please read the following message from Mayor Mark Johnson:

Rockin’ The Rails 06/25/2020 CANCELLED

For the past several weeks and with the assistance of Covington Fire Chief Gary Blocker, I have been closely monitoring reported new Covid19 cases in the 70433 and 70435 zip codes.

In the six days from June 11th to June 17th the Cov Zip Code had 23 newly reported infections, i.e. average 3-4 new cases per day.

In the five days from June 18th to June 22nd we had 67, nearly triple, i.e. 10-12 new cases per day.

It is important to note this uptick correlates in time with the substantial increase of COVID testing in our area.

That said, the increase is bothersome. As such, I have made the decision to cancel tonight’s Four Unplugged / Boogie Falaya show at the Trailhead. I look forward to an evening(s) soon when we can all enjoy two of our favorite local bands.

This morning I confirmed the hospitalization rate remains very low and that the St. Tammany Health System remains equipped and staffed to address the needs of the community.

Please know I do not make these decisions without much contemplation.

Stay Safe and Take Care,
Mark R. Johnson
Mayor
City of Covington
