St. Tammany Art Association Presents “Icons: Personal Visions” Group Exhibition

Icons: Personal Visions STAAThe St. Tammany Art Association presents ‘Icons:  Personal Visions’, an exciting new show on view December 14, 2013 through February 1, 2014.

Presented by STAA past president and longtime sponsor, Catherine Deano, the exhibit features artwork by regional artists: Jacqueline Bishop, Douglas Bourgeois, Alan Gerson, Jessica Goldfinch, Christopher Guarisco, John Hodge, Thomas Mann, Francie Rich, Leslie Staub and Monica Zeringue. An opening reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 6-9 p.m.

The extended exhibition is designed to open a dialogue on the concept of icons and iconography with its migration from the religious to the secular in contemporary art. Contemporary icon painting takes a broader, secular approach through influences of traditional icon imagery and processes, and is literally expressed by some but ambiguously approached by others. A series of interpretive elements, including the ubiquitous placement of a sculpture by Thomas Mann in locations around Covington, are designed to encourage discussion and awareness of art, history, imagery, and society in constantly evolving relationships.  All events are free and open the public.
