Black Bayou by James Overby

James Overby is proud to announce the opening of The Overby Gallery at 529 N. Florida Street, offering original art, antiques and framing. Overby is an artist, primarily a painter, from north Louisiana who recently relocated to the Covington area. His primary focus in painting is to convey a reverence of nature in his canvasses and panels. Overby began painting lessons at the age of eleven, and his early influences were John James Audubon and Charles Marion Russell. North Louisiana offered many places to discover nature for Overby while growing up, and he is ready to explore and discover the natural bounty of southeastern Louisiana.

James holds a BFA in Graphic Design from LA Tech, but painting remains his favorite pursuit. Showings in Louisiana, Florida and Texas have yielded regional awards as well as recognition on a national and international level. His general style is Contemporary Realism, although recent works move from a strict representational approach to a more stylized expression, a recognition of the relevance in many styles and techniques. For Overby, painting is about as many things as there are styles, and it offers a kind of therapy for the soul. Whether you are working to achieve a vision, communicate visually, or just having fun, painting is a special thing to share with others.

The Overby Gallery can help clients select frames and mats to be produced by Gail Gullang of the Purple Pine Cone. The Overby Gallery will hold a Grand Opening on May 29. Open Tuesday – Saturday, call 985-888-1310 for more information. www.overbygallery.com
