In an ambitious effort to introduce to North America every bird mentioned in Shakespeare’s works not currently inhabiting the New World at the time (1890), Eugene Schiffelin released two flocks of 60 starlings in New York’s Central Park. The starling, among over 600 references to various fowl, was mentioned only once (Henry IV, pt. 1). www.history.com
