Meet the Covington Police Department

CPD Officer Daniel Owen
Officer Daniel Owen, Covington Police Department

In an effort to introduce our local police officers to the community and provide an opportunity for the CPD to highlight their outstanding officers, Covington Weekly profiles are provided by Chief Tim Lentz of the Covington Police Department.

Daniel Owen grew up in Kentwood, Louisiana.   He is a 2005  graduate of Jewel M. Sumner High School in Tangipahoa Parish.  He started his law enforcement career with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office in 2007 as a corrections officer.  He remained there until 2009 when he was offered a job at the Kentwood Police Department as a patrol officer.  Kentwood Police Department sent Daniel to Baton Rouge for his POST Certification, which he successfully obtained.  After two years on the job with Kentwood, Daniel  then accepted a job as a patrol officer with the Ponchatoula Police Department.
During Mardi Gras season, CPD borrows police officers from other jurisdictions to help with the parade.  In 2013, while working for the Ponchatoula Police Department, Daniel was assigned to work the parade in Covington.  While working the parade, Daniel fell in love with the City and grabbed an application before leaving town.  Shortly thereafter, Daniel began his career with the Covington Police Department.  He is now one of CPD’s senior officers, given the important task of training the new recruits as a Field Training Officer.  Daniel lives in Hammond, and in his time off enjoys spending time with his family, hunting and fishing.  He also takes tremendous pride in his health and appearance by exercising regularly.       covla.com      CPD:  985-892-8500
