Law Enforcement Roundtable Discussion

District Attorney Warren Montgomery brought together Sheriff Randy Smith, two local pastors, a representative of a local crime watchdog group, and two community volunteers for a panel discussion Thursday, July 14, 2016, on how to promote greater understanding and respect among law enforcement officers and African Americans in St. Tammany Parish. Montgomery moderated the discussion, which featured the following panelists: Sheriff Smith; Rev. Julian Carter, President of the Ministerial Alliance of Greater St. Tammany and Pastor of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Pearl River; Pastor Lawrence Weathersby of Living the Word International Ministries in Slidell and Retired Deputy Chief of the New Orleans Police Department; Military Veteran Michael Rush, a community volunteer in Covington/Mandeville; Youth Director Gaynell Perry of Bethel Reform Methodist Church in Covington; and Rafael Goyeneche, President of the Metropolitan Crime Commission.
