A Modern Day Santa

A Modern Day Santa While the modern visage of “Santa Claus” is attributed to the cartoonist Thomas Nast (see below), the historical Saint Nicholas, or Nikolaos the Wonderworker, was an early Christian Bishop of Myra (modern day Demre, Turkey).

Saint Nicholas of Myra Saves Three Innocents from Death (below, oil painting by Ilya Repin, 1888, State Russian Museum). Caroline Darby Memorial Christmas Wish

Published by:

The Annual Caroline Darby Memorial Christmas Wish for 2017 (formally known as Toys for Tots) is getting under way with the Covington Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #43. It’s that time of season again, when children are looking forward to, and getting excited about the arrival of Santa Claus.
With the community’s help last year the Caroline Darby Memorial Christmas Wish put a smile on the faces of over 500 children in the Covington area that are less fortunate that others. The support of our community ensured these children were able to have a merry Christmas and could not have been done without your help.

The distribution date for this year is scheduled for December 9, 2017, 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Bogue Falaya Hall behind the Greater Covington Center (317 N. Jefferson St.) The local Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 43 is asking the community for donations of toys or monetary donations. Anything the community gives goes directly to making Christmas memorable for the children.
If you would like to make a monetary donation, please make checks payable to FOP Lodge #43 and mail them to Covington Police Department, P.O. Box 1059, Covington LA 70434. For more information, or if you need toys to be picked up, please call 985-892-8500 and ask for Tammy Bushnell.
We ask those that are interested in having their kids participate in the event to register at the Police Department located at 609 N. Columbia Street. Kids up to the age of 12 will be allowed to participate in the event.
Thank you for the support you give each year to ensure the future of our community is able to have a memorable and happy holiday. Thanks in advance, Chief Tim Lentz.
