Local Events This Week at the Farmer's Market

Last STAA Art Market of the Season

May is the last STAA Covington Art Market of the Spring Season.  Brought to you by the City of Covington and the St. Tammany Art Association, the market showcases juried work by local and regional artists ranging from oil painting to wood work and everything in between.  The Covington Art Market takes place at the Trailhead (419 N. New Hampshire St.) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.   Food is available from Beck N Call Cafe, coffee, water and sodas are also available for purchase.  Enjoy live music by Patrick Brooks and Timothy Gates, plus a table for children’s activities.  The Art Markets will resume in the Fall, running October through December.

The Covington Brewhouse is right across the street from the Trailhead on the North side, featuring Free Tours at 11:30 a.m. And 12:30 p.m.  Baba Ganoush serves Gyros and Chicken Schwarma at the brewhouse during the day.


The Covington Farmer’s Market also takes place every Saturday from 8 a.m. To noon at the 600 block of Columbia Street (Covington Police Department).  You’ll find local produce, prepared foods, meats, plants and much more.  Featuring market staples like GROW.farm, Abundant Life Kitchen, Nur’s Kitchen, Mama Lea, 7 Grain, Sam Sprouts and many more, visit the website for a full list of vendors, and subscribe to the newsletter, sent every week by Charlene LeJeune of Abundant Life Kitchen.  This week features the sounds of Jessica Kerber and Tostadas by Letissia Perez.

Holiday Art Market, Christmas in the Country, Deck the Rails

The Holiday Covington Art Market takes place this weekend at the Covington Trailhead from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with extended hours and entertainment for the festive season.  Browse juried local artists ranging from oil paintings to wood carving/shaping and everything in between.  Beverages served by the St. Tammany Art Association, food from Beck n Call Café, and live music by Josh Foreman, Timothy Gates and Cassie Krebs.  Brought to you by the St. Tammany Art Association, The City of Covington and Heritage Bank of St. Tammany.

“Christmas in the Country” continues on Lee Lane every Saturday through December, featuring shopping, food and fun!  Look for live music, refreshments, sales, and more.  All the shops will be beautifully decorated and aglow with the warmth of the holidays.

Beginning at 4 p.m., Deck the Rails takes place at the Covington Trailhead, the City’s popular children’s Holiday Event.  Featuring caroling, Santa’s arrival, and an outdoor showing of “It’s A Wonderful Life”.

Johnny’s music career has brought him from his early professional years backing up Chicago blues legends, Jimmy Rodgers, Robert Lockwood Jr, John Lee Hooker.  Johnny continues to forge forward on world wide tours with his band , As a solo artist and as a member of New Orleans super group The Voice of The Wetlands All Stars.

Big Chief Monk Boudreaux

The New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian phenomenon is part music, part heritage, part ancestry, part revelry, part fashion, and oft misunderstood.  Chief Monk Boudreaux is one of the most famous and enduring leaders of that culture and head of the Golden Eagle Mardi Gras Indian tribe.  Music has also become a vehicle for raising awareness of the plight of coastal erosion.  Boudreaux joined forces with blues guitarist and singer/songwriter Tab Benoit and an all-star band of musicians in the project “Voice of the Wetlands.” The group recorded and performed songs aimed at raising awareness of this issue that is central to the viability of the region.

Brooks' Bike Shop Hosts St. Patrick's Day Bike RideBrooks’ Bike Shop will host a nice, short mid-day ride winding through the streets of historic downtown Covington.  Plan on riding about 5 – 7 miles, and be sure to wear some green to avoid getting pinched.  The ride will end at Jewel’s Cigar and Briar Shop with bagpipes, authentic Celtic music, a blues band, food, beverages and plenty of good times.
