This Week in Downtown Covington

Block Party takes place this Friday, August 25, 2017. Walk the streets, see the cars, hear the music, drink the drinks and eat the food. There’s plenty to see and do (and eat and drink) downtown for the block party. Columbia Street Rock N Blues features Supercharger, plus the usual block party shenanigans. Wharton’s of Covington features the Big Easy Brawlers, getting started at 8:30. Food at your favorite spot, including Vazquez, Buster’s Place, New Orleans Food & Spirits, St. John’s Coffeehouse, Columbia Street Rock N Blues Cafe and The Tap Room & Seiler Bar.

The Ultimate Tailgate Party takes place this Saturday, August 26th at the Tchefuncta Country Club from 7 p.m. To 10 p.m. The event is hosted by the Exchange Club of West St. Tammany and benefits the Louisiana Coalition Against Human Trafficking, Upward Community Services and Wounded War Heroes.
The 7th Annual Ultimate Tailgate Party hosting 13 BBQ Teams competing for the title of Grand Champion. The Exchange Club’s annual fundraiser supports organizations in our community that align with our pillars of service: Americanism, Child Abuse Prevention and building a strong family unit. Block Party This Friday In Downtown Covington

It’s time for a Downtown Block Party again with the last day of the month this Friday.  Take a stroll and look at the cars, or park yourself at one of the great restaurants that Covington’s Historic Downtown offers. There’s plenty to choose from between the Tap Room and Seiler Bar, Columbia Street Rock N Blues Cafe, Vazquez Poboy, Buster’s Place and St. John’s Coffeehouse. If you’re wanting something more upscale, try Del Porto, Toad Hollow, Ox Lot 9 or Mac’s on Boston. The Block Party may end at 9:30, but that doesn’t mean the party stops. The party continues after hours with plenty of music and entertainment from local and regional groups.

Block Party Returns This Friday – Live Music at Local Venues

Friday Night Block PartyWith the return of Spring, Covington’s Block Parties are back! The St. John’s Historic District features many fantastic restaurants, watering holes and great shopping at local retail stores. The cars line Columbia Street and music fills the air as downtown comes alive on the last Friday of the month March through October. Streets are closed along Columbia and Boston streets during the block party, from 6:30 – 9:30 pm.

Surf n Turf CS Rock N BluesColumbia St. Rock N Blues cooks up a surf and turf special on Fridays from 4 – 9 pm only, featuring filet and lobster – yum! 500 Women for Hope House CovLuv Raffle Continues Through March

500 Women for Hope House RAFFLELiz Bragdon of Our Place Studio and Reina Solano of Shop Soul Boutique have joined forces to take part in the “500 Women for Hope House” campaign. The goal of the campaign is for 500 women from St. Tammany & Washington Parishes to raise $100 (or more) for the Children’s Advocacy Center – Hope House. Their idea to raise the money was to host a “CovLuv” raffle – powered by the community through donations from local businesses and artists. Over thirty items have been collected to raffle off, including prizes like a 1 month supply of kombucha from Kombucha Girl, a 60 minute customized massage from Soul’s Journey, a tangerine quartz necklace from Shoeffle’, the coveted $100 gift certificate to OxLot 9, and so much more! Upcoming Spring Events – Rockin’ the Rails Lineup Plus Sunset at the Landing, Block Party This Month

rockintherailslineupapril2015The City of Covington is pleased to announce its twelfth Rockin’ the Rails FREE Spring concert series at the Covington Trailhead, 419 N. New Hampshire Street. The concerts will take place every Thursday in April from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The City encourages those who work, live or are passing through Covington to stop by the Trailhead at the end of the work day to listen to great music and have some refreshments, all available through local non-profits. “Please remember to purchase your beverages at the concert, as this supports our sponsor, Champagne Beverage, so that we can continue to offer these great events to the public free of charge,” says Cultural Arts & Events Manager Aimee Faucheux. “We also encourage attendees to top off the evening by dining at one of downtown Covington’s fabulous restaurants after the concert.” Attendees may bring picnic blankets and chairs to the concert, as seating is limited.

Rockin’ the Rails is presented by the City of Covington Office of Cultural Arts & Events and is sponsored by Champagne Beverage & Covington Brewhouse.

Sunset at the Landing begins this year on the first day of spring, March 20th and features the Danny Barker Tribute Banjo Quartet, opening with Jerry Hess from 6 – 9 pm at the Columbia Street Landing. www.covla.com
