Peg Usner Solo Exhibition at City Hall
The City of Covington’s Gallery at City Hall will open the solo exhibition of Peg Usner with a reception. Mayor Mike Cooper invites the public to attend on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, from 5:00-7:00pm.
Peg Usner focuses on plein air painting, creating art in the natural landscape. She began painting on her own at 11 years old, and received her first formal training under Raymond Scully in New Orleans. Peg received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Louisiana Tech, and her Master of Arts in History at UNO. As a professor of Interior Design, she led the program and taught for 23 years at Delgado College.
From 2015 through 2018, Peg served as Longue Vue House and Gardens’ first Artist in Residence.. In September 2018, Longue Vue hosted her solo show entitled “Impressions: NOLA, Northshore and Beyond.” The St. Tammany Art Association has been displaying Peg’s works since 1997, and in September of 2017 featured her in a solo show entitled “The Intimacy of Plein Air Painting.” In January of 2017, the Atrium Gallery at Christwood in Covington, Louisiana, also hosted a solo exhibition of her work. LPB featured Peg’s story in the 2017 Season 5, Episode 502 edition of “Art Rocks.” Peg participates annually in the Abita Springs “En Plein Air” and New Iberia “Shadows on the Teche” plein air events. She participates in art festivals, including Three Rivers, in Covington. Also, Peg illustrated David Campbell’s poetry book “Nature All Around Us” in 2017. The July/August 2018 issue of InsideNorthside featured her as cover artist.
She continues to paint the beauty of Louisiana, but also in the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina on frequent visits. However, wherever Peg is with her paints, nature provides subjects for her art.
