This Week at the Farmer’s Market

Published by:

Over the bridge and through the streets, to Wednesday we will go! That’s right, friends; Wednesday’s almost here! Come and indulge in a delicious lunch filled with great food, terrific music, and gentle breezes.

Are you ready for one of Kandy’s fantastic salads like her noodle salad with lemongrass chicken. I went all United Nations a few weeks ago when I mixed Kandy’s shredded cabbage salad with Siria’s guacamole. Oh My Goodness, they got along so well! How delicious! You’ll find fig preserves on Double K’s tables along with fresh eggs. You’ll find the lovely blueberry jam that Jerry makes plus wildflower honey on Taylor Farms’ table. Then see Randolph for a bag of delicately sweetened tea cakes made with Lillie’s very own recipe. Mr. Houston has fresh veggies straight from the farm and Chris promises a tasty chicken Creole with chilled carrot salad. Frankie’s bringing the boiling pot to you with shrimp foil packs — spicy little packs filled with boiled shrimp, corn on the cob, Andouille sausage & red potatoes! A nice glass of Jeremy’s nitro-brewed iced coffee would fit in real nice.

Steppin’ Up will usher in our Saturday morning with wonderful melodies sacheting from the gazebo. Have I got great news for you! Blood River Honey has creamed honey… Yeah. You heard me right! Boy oh boy! This is gonna be a great day in the neighborhood!

Tessier Gourmet has some great new choices such as lemon lentil soup and herbed zucchini and fire melon salsa. Mmmm. Tasty. Tasty. They must be — all the super heroes are hanging around (literally) keeping company with such movie stars as Donald and Daisy Duck, Mickey & Minnie, the minions…all lovingly had decorated by Mauricio.

I can’t believe it but we still have melon at the market but we may have some for another week or so. And, not only watermelon but also honey dew melon — so delicious, so sweet, so refreshing. Celeste at Butter Me Up has a delightful assortment of butters that will add flavor and variety to sautés with such wonderful things as mushrooms, squashes, eggplant, peppers, or those nifty cuccuzzas that J.R. has. Nathaniel and Ericka’s vegetable pancakes are a uniquely delicious way to incorporate squash into your diet. Enjoy freshly made at the market or take a pint of batter home to make at your leisure.

Remember that Emily has a variety of healthy broths for you to add pizzazz to rice, soups, beans, or gravies. A nice bottle of La Serendipity Blanc de Bois wine, nicely chilled, adds a little romance to your meals. Norma Jean is back with those amazing quiches, her dive-into delicious walnut pate and all the other delights you’ve come to expect from her. Every week Nancy’s table is blooming with beauty. Trudy, Ms. Betty and Dennis bring perfect to your patio. Tiger Bait has wonderful raw treats for your 4-legged friends. There’s kettle corn, pork skins, jams and jellies. There’s spices and goodies and ice cream and popscicles! Discover at the market so set your alarm clock for fantastic, ‘cause if you sleep in, all you gonna do is dream about it! What fun is that????

Lots of love,
