Covington has released a schedule of events planned to celebrate our bicentennial year, to culminate with a grand Bicentennial Celebration on July 4th. For more information about each event, please visit the Bicentennial page on the City’s website.
March 9th: The St. Tammany Art Association presents “Covington Bicentennial Exhibit”, connecting Covington’s past, present and future. March 23rd: Keep Covington Beautiful will host a Covington Bicentennial Garden Tour,
April 6th: “Whisperings From the Past” Covington Cemetery Tours starting at 5:30 pm, not suitable for small children.
April 8th: A “Bicentennial Golf Classic” will be held at Money Hill.
April 13th: “Memories to Memoirs: Remembering Covington in Your Writing” free lecture will be hosted by the Center of Performing Arts, featuring local authors Chris Garcia, Pat Clanton and David Arbo.
April 27th: Archivist Sally Reeves will present “Hidden Treasures of Covington: Lecture and House Tour,” followed by a tour of Covington’s finest homes in the Division of Spring.
May 25th: A “Covington’s Walker Percy” lecture will be presented by Judge Ellis at the Fuhrmann Auditorium in the Greater Covington Center. Free and open to the public, wine and cheese event.
May 27th: A Veterans Appreciation Reception will be held at the Bogue Falaya Hall, also part of the Covington Center.
June 23rd: A free and open to the public lecture on “The History of the African American Community in Covington” will be presented by Dr. Eva Baham at the Greater Covington Center.
June 29th: Hemming Motor News “Great Race” will begin 4 pm at the Covington Trailhead.
June 30th: The St. Tammany Art Association will host “Old Times and Old Fashions, Stories Behind the Prints: Side Lights of Covington History”, presented by Historian Howard Nichols and Artist Suzanne King. Free and open to the public, Old Fashions and hors d’oeuvres.
July 4th: “Happy Birthday Covington” Bicentennial Extravaganza at the Bogue Falaya Park.
Not yet scheduled: Bicentennial Then & Now Walkabout, Prayer Breakfast and Parade.
