The Sierra Club Louisiana Delta Chapter has generated a letter to be used as a model letter in addressing concerns to Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries, who have received various permit applications for withdrawal of water from our local rivers for use in hydraulic fracturing. Two of these permits, numbers 902 and 903 submitted by Comstock Resorces Inc., have a comment period deadline of this weekend, July 18th & 20th. The letter, which specifies these two permits, addresses concerns with water withdrawal and with possible contamination of waterways caused by hydraulic fracturing operation within the watershed of the river. Each permit is applying to withdraw 12,600,000 gallons of what is referred to as Outstanding National Resource Waters from the Tickfaw River (in Tangipahoa), a designated scenic river.
