Improvements to additional local streets and avenues in Covington are now underway. According to Mayor Mike Cooper, this is the third and final project being performed by Barriere Construction under a construction agreement approved on October 10, 2013. Two prior task orders were completed in the past 18 months where streets received new asphalt overlay or concrete panel replacement. Funding for the 2-year Street Improvement Program was provided by the City Council in the 2013, 2014, and 2015 adopted capital outlay budgets.
The current project includes the widening and asphalt overlay of portions of S. Jefferson Avenue and the entirety of N. Jefferson Avenue, a major north-south arterial street which handles heavy daily traffic.
Other streets included in this final project under the construction agreement are portions of N. Vermont Street, N. New Hampshire Street, and N. Columbia Street in downtown Covington, and several streets in residential neighborhoods.
This project will be completed in 30 – 60 days and some work may be performed at night and on Saturdays in order to minimize inconvenience to citizens and visitors.
