“Steel Magnolias” continues its run through this weekend at the Center Of Performing Arts on the corner of Rutland and Columbia Streets in Downtown Covington. This classic slice of Louisiana life, is based on a true story set from 1983 to 1985, and features a six person ensemble cast of strong local actresses who are primarily from the West St Tammany area.
Steel Magnolias is the first of six plays that will be staged from now until December at Center Of Performing Arts. The season continues with “Hit It!” celebrating Billboard chart toppers from 1960-2015 in July, The farcical romp “5 Lesbians Eating Quiche” – an uproariously funny satire that looks at melodramatic fears during the Cold War and today – set for August/September, “Moon Over Montivideo”, written by New Orleans own David Cuthbert and Bob Bruce with music by Danny Rubio, set for September/October, “The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Play” inspired by Hitchcock’s classic tale in October/November and of course “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” for the December show.
Tickets are $27 per admittance, and season tickets are available for a 20% savings. To learn more about upcoming plays and order your season tickets online go to www.centerofperformingarts.net
