Covington, LA – Two Christ Episcopal School (CES) student-athletes were named to the NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune All-Metro Top 20 Female Athletes of the Year list, which was released June 19.
Gabby Leahy, a senior, ranked #7 on the list. In her first year of playing organized basketball, she led the Wildcats to the Division V state title in the school’s first year of competition as a member of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA). She averaged 21 points per game with five rebounds, five assists and three steals, and was the state title game’s MVP, scoring a game-high 33 points.
Svenya Stoyanoff, an eighth grader, ranked #11 on the list for her role in helping CES capture Class C state team titles in both cross country and track and field. She also took the Class C individual crown at the state cross country meet, notched individual Class C state track wins in the 800-meter and 1600-meter races, and was a part of the winning 4×400-meter relay team.
About CES athletics: In its first year as a member of the LHSAA, CES celebrated three state championships, including Girls Cross Country Class C, Girls Basketball Division V, and Girls Track and Field Class C. The Wildcats also had a state finalist in its Boys Track and Field Class C team. Cheer, sailing, equestrian, cross country, volleyball, flag football, swimming, basketball, soccer, baseball, track and field, golf, tennis, and lacrosse are all offered at CES.
