Keep Covington Beautiful Receives 2020 Clean-Up Supply Grant

Keep Covington Beautiful (KCB) announces they have received a 2020 Clean-up Supply Grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful. The purpose of the grant is to promote community clean-ups by providing the tools needed. KCB will receive gloves, litter grabbers, bags, safety vests and “Love the Boot” t-shirts. This will allow KCB to loan supplies to neighborhood groups and other organizations for their clean-up events.

KCB is also rebooting the ‘Adopt-an-Oxlot’ project, an initiative to encourage the offices and businesses surrounding the downtown historic ox lots to help keep them clean.

The annual Bogue Falaya River Sweep is currently scheduled for September 26, 2020. All clean-ups will be held in compliance COVID 19 guidelines at the scheduled time of the event. Neighborhood clean-ups should be limited to small areas and small groups of volunteers.

Sierra Club Sponsors Clean Up at Fontainebleau

Extreme state park budget cuts in recent years leave our

beloved natural parks vulnerable to closures, both

temporary and long-term. The Sierra Club is stepping in to

help! Bring your garden tools and get ready to prune, clip,

work trails, and plant at Fontainebleau State Park in St.

Tammany Parish! We will work from 10-2:00 with a break for

lunch (not provided).

Additional Directions: ** All volunteers must bring their

own PPEs i.e. safety glasses, work gloves, ear protection,

and wear proper shoes for outdoor work.

The clean up event will take place at Fontainebleau State

Park on Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 10 am til 2 pm

KCB River Sweep Rescheduled For Dec. 3

With the Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana, Delta Chapter, Legacy Whiskey and Marsh and Bayou Magazine as partners, Keep Covington Beautiful’s Bogue Falaya River Sweep litter cleanup is rescheduled for Saturday, December 3, 2016, 10 am to noon.  Following the cleanup, volunteers will be treated to light lunch and refreshments at The Chimes Restaurant.  Join KCB and these great partners for a rewarding few hours of work followed by a fun social event.
All volunteers should sign in at the Menetre (4th Avenue) Boat Launch.  Paddlers will collect litter in and along the river from the boat launch to the Boston Street Bridge.  KCB will provide trash bags, gloves and litter grabbers.  A limited number of canoes and kayaks are available.  Sign up to reserve one at keepcovingtonbeautiful@gmail.com by November 28th.  To register as a volunteer or paddler with your own canoe/kayak, email jritter@sazerac.com.  Personal flotation devices are required for all paddlers.  Volunteers who are not paddling will pick up litter at the boat launch and help unload trash from paddlers at Bogue Falaya Park drop-off location.

Keep Covington Beautiful is sponsoring its annual Bogue Falaya River Sweep, a litter clean-up on the Bogue Falaya River, on Saturday, September 17th.  KCB will partner with the City of Covington and Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation’s Beach Sweep. This event is held in conjunction with the International Coastal Cleanup sponsored by the Ocean Conservancy.
KCB invites volunteers to bring their canoes & kayaks to the Menetre (4th Avenue) Boat Launch at 9:00 a.m. KCB will provide trash bags, gloves & litter grabbers. Paddlers will collect litter in & along the river from the boat launch to the Boston Street Bridge & back to Bogue Falaya Park.

KCB will partner with the Mayor’s Council on Health & Wellness and the City of Covington for the event.

KCB invites volunteers to bring their canoes & kayaks to the Menetre (4th Avenue) Boat Launch at 8:00 a.m. KCB will provide trash bags, gloves & litter grabbers for the paddlers, who will collect litter in & along the river from the boat launch to the Boston Street Bridge & back to Bogue Falaya Park.

The Covington Clean & Green River Run canoe, kayak and stand up paddleboard races will follow the River Sweep cleanup. The races will benefit KCB’s major project, the Blue Swamp Creek Nature Trail. In addition to the nature trail, race proceeds will support Keep Covington Beautiful’s other projects: Arbor Day Tree Give-away, educational seminars, litter prevention projects and recycling at local events, such as the Three Rivers Art Festival.

Paddlers and volunteers interested in helping with the clean-up or participating in the races are asked to sign up by March 30th by contacting KCB at 985-867-3652 or kcb@covla.com. A limited number of canoes and kayaks will be available for both of the events. They will be assigned as paddlers sign up. Event day volunteers & paddlers are always welcome but canoe/kayak availability cannot be guaranteed. Entries received for the cancelled 2013 event are still valid. Please confirm that you would like to participate this year.

Race entry forms with race divisions and race sponsorship forms are available at www.keepcovingtonbeautiful.org or at Campbell’s Coffee, 516 S. Tyler. Entry forms, with payment by check only, can be mailed to KCB or dropped off at Campbell’s Coffee & Tea.

Personal flotation devices are required for all paddlers. All paddlers will be required to sign a waiver before participating in either event. Signature of parent or guardian required for youth under the age of 18, or if part of a group, by the organization’s authorized adult sponsor.

Keep Covington Beautiful Bogue Falaya River Sweep & Clean Green River RunKeep Covington Beautiful will host their annual Bogue Falaya River Sweep litter clean-up on Saturday April 5th, 8 – 10:30 am, starting at the 4th Avenue Boat Launch. This year after the litter clean-up they will incorporate a River Run Race starting at the Bogue Falaya Park. This race will be open to canoes, kayaks and paddleboards.
