Second Saturday Art Walk This Weekend

The Second Saturday Art Walk is a great excuse to get out and enjoy everything Historic Downtown Covington has to offer.  Ox Lot Square Townhomes is hosting an open house May 14 and 15 (see back flyer).  Visit your favorite gallery and see who’s showing, new additions downtown include Armbruster, Rolland Golden, Saladino and Rutland Street Gallery.  The St. Tammany Art Association is showing “Expressions of Place”, and Tripolo Gallery is a Columbia Street mainstay. Stop in any of the great restaurants downtown for a quick bite to eat, or a nice leisurely meal.
Enjoy fine dining at Del Porto Ristorante, Ox Lot 9,  Mac’s on Boston and Toad Hollow Cafe, or for a more casual atmosphere, Vazquez Poboys, Buster’s Place or Columbia Street Rock N Blues Cafe.  Get some coffee, dessert or a sandwich at St. John’s Coffeehouse.  Downtown is about to welcome a new bar & grill in the old Wino’s & Tacos location, Hook’d Up will occupy 321 N. Columbia Street.
Nightlife in downtown includes The Tap Room and Seiler Bar with food, drinks and live music, Columbia Street Rock N Blues, also with late night food and DJ Hollywood this Saturday.  The Green Room, now a non-smoking venue, presents The Mockingbirds Saturday, with late night food.

Tulane Contemporary Glass opens at the St. Tammany Art Association.  View works from professors, graduate students and former students of the glass art program at Tulane which has inspired and shaped the New Orleans glass art movement.  Opening Reception is Saturday, February 13 from 6 p.m. To 9 p.m.
The St. Tammany Art Association’s February exhibit, Tulane Contemporary Glass, will spotlight the energy and influence behind the Tulane/ Newcomb College Glass Art program and it’s director, Gene Koss.  The exhibit features Gene Koss, Dan Alley, Christopher Gray, Weston Lambert, Andrew Ledford, Dakota Moe, Devon Murphy, Francine Judd Stock and Lisa Tahir.

The exhibit, sponsored by Dependable Glass Works and Champagne Beverages, will be on display February 13 through April 2, 2016 in the Mirriam Barranger Gallery of the St. Tammany Art Association with an opening reception, sponsored by Isabella’s Pizzeria, held on Saturday in coordination with the Second Saturday Art Walk in downtown Covington.  On Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 2 p.m., Gene Koss will give a gallery talk on glass, his work and the glass program at Tulane University in New Orleans.
The St. Tammany Art Association is located at 320 N. Columbia Street in Covington.  The gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. To 4 p.m. And Saturdays from 11 a.m. To 4 p.m.  All exhibitions are free and open to the public unless otherwise indicated.   sttammanyartassociation.org

Holiday shoppers can enjoy an old world shopping experience in a romantic holiday setting, while discovering everything from couture fashions to original fine art, home furnishings, and antique treasures in dozens of boutiques and galleries. Shoppers will also find weekly specials and entertainment, especially within the tax-free shopping area of the Covington Cultural District, all sponsored by the Covington Business Association, Lee Lane Merchants, and Covington Downtown Economic Development.

Most shops are open 9am – 5pm Mon. – Sat., some open on Sundays.  Shoppers will enjoy taking a break at luxurious spas and salons, getting an on-the-go fresh lunch, or staying for an evening of fine dining and entertainment at the city’s award-winning restaurants and nightclubs.
