Columbia Street Block Party Friday Evening

The Columbia Street Block Party takes place this Friday from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.  Classic cars line the streets and music fills the air.  Stop in to any one of your favorite spots on Columbia for drink specials, food and entertainment.  Hop over to the corner of Boston and Columbia for some coffee and open mic at St. John’s Coffeehouse, featuring Cassie Krebs as this week’s host.  Street Parade perform Wharton’s Green Room for Block Party.  covla.com

STAA Block Party Arts Market:  Stroll through the Arts Market located at Haik Park on Columbia Street, across from H.J. A City of Covington Comprehensive Plan Update Public Workshop will take place at the Columbia Street Block party this Friday from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.  The topic for this Public Workshop is Visioning.  

Representatives will be canvassing between the 200 and 500 blocks of Columbia Street.  Please join the City in creating a vision for the future of Covington.  Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. 

Covington Plan 2030 is a guide for decision-making about growth and development in Covington.  The Plan will outline goals, objectives, and projections of the City’s needs through 2030.  covingtonplan2030.com

Columbia St. Block Party & Friday Night Events

Covington’s Columbia Street Block Party takes place this Friday, June 28, 2019 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Cars line the street with plenty of food, music and fun.

St. John’s Coffeehouse continues their Open Mic Series Friday with host Cassie (Kass) Krebs. Kass plays a short set, then the stage opens up for Open Mic. Bring your instrument and your favorite songs, and sign up on the list. St. John’s serves hot and cold coffees, teas, sandwiches, pastries and other great treats.

Wharton’s Green Room presents Uncle Daddy from 7 – 9:30 p.m. during the Block Party. Uncle Daddy is a band featuring musicians from SugarBomb, a Green Room favorite. Stop in for a hand-crafted cocktail or a draft beer, and dance a few tunes. After Block Party, it’s the Shimmy Showcase, so get ready for a night of belly dance! Beginning at 10 p.m., $5 at the door let’s you shimmy with Pandorium Belly Dance Company.

Columbia Street Rock N Blues Cafe is set up for Block Party! Rock It Productions brings the party with DJ’s inside and out, the BassWagon and Rock It Photo Booth. Celebrate Columbia St. Block Party in style, Rock It Productions style, with a newly renovated back patio & bar. Columbia Street Rock N Blues features food, drink specials, live music, pool and more.

Hoodoo Ice Cream is open for Block Party! Cool treats hit the spot on hot summer nights, so stop in and see what’s on the menu. Hint: blueberries are in season!

It’s the Halloween Block Party, and the last one of the season, so wear your best costume. This month is sponsored by the Covington Business Association and Select Properties LTD. The Friends of the Library of West St. Tammany holds its September Book Sale this Friday and Saturday, September 14th and 15th. The Friends of the Library has hundreds of magazines this month, all at ten cents each. Fill a magazine holder (limited supply) for $1.

The Friends of the Library of West St. Tammany is an all volunteer, nonprofit organization with proceeds supporting the Library in West St. Tammany. Linen Night This Saturday

This Saturday brings Covington’s version of Linen Night to raise money for public art. Where what you like, but be ready for gallery openings, food, libations and live music everywhere you look. Below is a quick run-down of some of the happenings on Columbia Street:

Wharton’s Green Room presents Dem Guyz and Light Alibi, featuring craft cocktails and drink specials. Columbia Street Rock N Blues Cafe gets groovy with Groovy 7! Along with their other menu favorites, Rock N Blues now has pizza and pool tables in the back.
The St. Tammany Art Association joins the celebration of arts with the newest exhibition of members’ works in the Severson and Williamson galleries, and it will be the final opportunity to view the 53rd Annual Summer Show.

At 5 p.m., prior to the art event Saturday, STAA hosts a special Artist Talk with the event juror, Katie Pfohl, who will share insights as to her selection process. Some of the exhibition’s artists will also join the discussion to share their thoughts about their creative process. This is a free event. Visit sttammanyartassociation.org
Pepe’s Mexican Kitchen serves authentic and fresh Mexican food with a full Tequila Bar in a casual, family- friendly environment. This Saturday, August 18th, Pepe’s presents live music along with your food and drinks for the Covington Linen Night.

Rockin’ the Rails at the Covington Trailhead is a free concert series made possible by the City of Covington and generous sponsors. Festival season is here, and the April concert series takes advantage of the milder spring weather on the northshore. This Thursday, April 5, it’s John Papa Gros Band. The concerts begin at 5 p.m. And end at 7:30 p.m. The Covington Trailhead is located at 419 N. New Hampshire Street in Historic Downtown Covington. Marsolan’s Old Feed Store Music Series begins this Saturday, September 30. The Driskell Mountain Boys kick off the fall series, performing from 12 – 1 p.m., with an open jam session after the show.

The Old Feed Store Music Series announces that they will raffle off a gently used Epiphone MM-50/VS (Serial Number DWO7020111) mandolin and four, 45-minute private music lessons for $5 per chance. Tickets will be available for purchase at Marsolan’s Feed starting Sept. 30. All proceeds of the raffle will be used to pay musicians performing in the series. Follow them on Facebook.
