In an effort to introduce our local police officers to the community and provide an opportunity for the CPD to highlight their outstanding officers, Covington Weekly profiles are provided by Chief Tim Lentz of the Covington Police Department.
Officer Timothy McJunkin was hired at the Police Department August of 2014. Previously, he was a southern Baptist minister, serving full time in three churches in Mississippi and Louisiana. Tim has a master’s degree in Christian thought from the New Orleans Baptist Theological seminary. Tim credits his interest in law enforcement to his grandfather, who was a police officer in the state of Mississippi.
After 21 years with the church, Tim followed his childhood dreams and applied to be a police officer in Covington, his first law enforcement job. He started his training immediately and was selected as the president of his POST Academy class.
Tim has been married to his wife Jenny for the last 14 years, and they have three children. In his off time, Tim involves himself in volunteer work with his church, conducting counseling, bible studies and mentoring. His time as a minister taught him how to relate to many different people, and he truly cares for all, regardless of their circumstance. His care and compassion is an example for others. Tim aspires to make a career at the Covington Police Department and hopes to move up the ranks. He truly believes in making people around him better and is a tremendous asset.
