Tai Chi Classes at Our Place Studio

Tai Chi Classes at Our Place Studio

Our Place Personal Fitness & Bodywork Studio offers a Tai Chi Class on Thursday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with Erlinda Nye. The class is $15 drop in for the general public or $12 with a class card. Here is a brief look at the Health Benefits of Tai Chi, from Harvard Health Publications, “The health benefits of Tai Chi”:

Muscle Strength – Tai Chi can improve upper and lower body strength, like resistance training and brisk walking.

Flexibility – Tai Chi can improve basic flexibility

Balance – Tai Chi is helpful in training and honing proprioception, the ability to sense body position in space

Aerobic Conditioning – Tai Chi can improve aerobic benefits, depending on the movements

Tips For a Successful Tai Chi Experience

Talk to the instructor – communication is the best way to address any questions with regard to individual health concerns or levels of coordination and fitness.

Dress Comfortably – wear loose-fitting clothes that allow for ease of movement, with lightweight, comfortable and flexible shoes, or practice barefoot.

Gauge your progress – weekly class with home practice over a period of 12 weeks is a good amount of time to measure positive physical and psychological changes

“Tai chi is often described as “meditation in motion,” but it might well be called “medication in motion.” There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice, which originated in China as a martial art, has value in treating or preventing many health problems.” Harvard Health
