In an effort to introduce our local police officers to the community and provide an opportunity for the CPD to highlight their outstanding officers, Covington Weekly profiles are provided by Chief Tim Lentz of the Covington Police Department.
Detective Masters began his law enforcement career with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office. During his time with OPSO, Detective Masters served as a Field Training Officer, responsible for training new recruits. Detective Masters was also promoted to Special Operations Division at the OPSO where he worked as an investigators and a SWAT operator. Detective Masters continued his law enforcement career by joining the Covington Police Department in 2014.
He attended the Slidell Regional Police Academy graduating with the second highest score on the Louisiana Peace Officers Standards and Training test for his class. Detective Masters quickly build a reputation for himself as an intelligent police officer who genuinely cares about the community he serves.
After on two years with the Covington Police Department, he was selected as a Detective and transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division in November of 2016. While working as a patrol officer, Edwin took every opportunity he could to interact with the members of the community, especially the children he met during his patrols. Edwin could often be found playing basketball with the children he met during his patrol duties.
Edwin is so highly regarded by his peers, that he was voted the 2016 Police Officer of the Year. For his recognition, he will lead the Olympia Parade this Saturday.
