In an effort to introduce our local police officers to the community and provide an opportunity for the CPD to highlight their outstanding officers, Covington Weekly profiles are provided by Chief Tim Lentz of the Covington Police Department.
Officer Mark Dugas grew up in Lafayette Louisiana. After graduating high school he started a 12 year career with three different arms of the military. First with the Army, Coast Guard, and concluding with the Air Force. During his time with the Air Force he served as a Military Policeman. That assignment brought him to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Mark fell in love with the area and decided to plant roots in Southeast Louisiana. After his military commitments, he worked for a short period with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office and then as an investigator with the Taxi Cab Bureau in New Orleans. In 2014 he was hired by the Covington Police Department. Mark truly embraced the concept of Community Policing and became one of our most outstanding police officers. In 2016 we were heartbroken to learn that was relocating to the Fort Worth area where he has strong family ties. We were even more excited when we learned that in April of this year, Mark was so in love with our department and this city that he wanted to return to Covington and our wonderful Police Department.
Since his return, Mark has been instrumental in training our new officers. Mark lives in Covington with his wife Lili and their three kids. In his off time, Mark enjoys playing a variety of different musical instruments, including guitar, bass, and drums.
The CPD is open 24/7. Emergencies, dial 911. Non-emergencies, 985-892-8500.
