Block Party This Friday in Downtown Covington

Block Party kicks off again this Friday, July 31st from 6:30 – 9:30 pm in downtown Covington! The St. John’s Historic District features many fantastic restaurants, watering holes and great shopping at local retail stores. The cars line Columbia and Boston Streets and music fills the air as downtown comes alive on the last Friday of the month through October. Streets are closed to vehicle traffic and open for pedestrians along Boston Street between Florida and N. New Hampshire streets in addition to the traditional six blocks of Columbia Street.

The City of Covington welcomes classic cars to line the street for visitors to peruse and enjoy. For inquires about participating in the monthly car shows, classic car owners can call 985-892-1873 or email gottaluvcov@covla.com.

July Block Party CSRB - CopyColumbia Street Rock N Blues Café at 407 N Columbia Street offers a full menu of food and drinks, plus live entertainment provided by Rock-It Productions, including a light show, photo booth, and DJs inside and outside in the Bass Wagon. PSTI Collecting Signatures at Fracking 101 during Block Party

The Preserve St. Tammany Initiative will be at 527 Boston Street collecting signatures for their Citizen’s Mandate, because industry should pay for its own costs and risks, not the taxpayer. More: preservesttammany.org

Friday Night Block PartyDowntown Covington’s Friday Block Parties are in full swing. The St. John’s Historic District features many fantastic restaurants and night clubs, plus great shopping at local retail stores. Vintage and reconditioned cars line Columbia and Boston Streets, and music fills the air as the downtown celebration unfolds every final Friday, March through October. Streets are closed along Columbia and Boston streets during the block party, from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Visit some of these great businesses downtown!

STAA’s Spring for Art 2015 this Saturday in Downtown Covington

STAA Spring for Art 2015The St. Tammany Art Association presents Spring For Art 2015 this Saturday evening, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event takes place throughout downtown Covington, and brochures with this year’s map and events are available now at the Art Association and participating businesses.

Sponsored in part by Champagne Beverage and Fat Tire Amber Ale, the free event features live music indoors and out throughout the walkable, historic St. John district and new work by dozens of artists from across the Southeast at participating galleries and shops.

Fall for Art 2014Fall is in the air, and that can only mean one thing – Fall for Art is just around the corner! Each fall and spring, St. Tammany Art Association transforms downtown Covington into an interactive, multidisciplinary art experience featuring local artists, musicians, art demonstrations, dance and theater performances, and more! Fall for Art & Spring for Art are designed to promote our lively arts community and strengthen our downtown Covington businesses, while celebrating our Cultural Arts District and tax-free shopping on original art.

The date for 2014′s Fall for Art is Saturday October 18th from 6 – 9 pm, and the St. Tammany Art Association is pleased to announce Gulf Coast Bank & Trust as the title sponsor. As always, Covington businesses are invited to participate in this exciting annual event.
