This Week at the Farmer’s Market by Charlene LeJeune

Greetings, friends! Easter Week is upon us a special time for my family filled with family reunions and catching up on the “gossip”. We celebrate from Friday through Sunday so I will miss out on the lively tunes of Olga Wilhelmine this Saturday. I will especially miss tasting Winos and Tacos’ cuisine! Chef Joel Brown will be on-site serving up samples from their menu.

Make sure you don’t miss out on eggs for dyeing. The kids will be terribly disappointed if there are no dyed eggs for the Easter egg hunt. Sample the coffee du jour at Coast Roast. Kevin always serves a unique international roast for your enjoyment. Now that I’ve tempted you with a fresh cup of coffee, can I tempt you with an amazing variety of goodies now that Lent is almost over and the freedom to indulge is once again at hand? What will it be? Teresa’s scrumptious fig cookies which are marvelously made and are a favorite of my Mr. Wonderful (which is saying a lot since his aunt made the best) or the perfectly dip-able orange almond biscotti (coffee or milk required), lemon crunches, wedding cookies or savory seed cookies? Or will it be Suzie’s market cookie oatmeal, raisins, chocolate chips, walnuts and it’s HUGE! Drool (mentally) over her luscious chocolate chip cookies, the lemon squares, or her almond croissant. She once described to me all the steps involved in creating this croissant. Simply put, it is baked, drowned in a special syrup, and tossed with sliced almonds and powdered sugar…I think it’s outlawed in several states; fortunately not Louisiana. Try one of Rose’s delicious pies apple, pecan, cherry or sweet potato or opt for one of Betty Rue’s gluten-free delights – peanut butter chocolate chip, chocolate crinkles, oatmeal raisin, ginger or a plump blueberry muffin. You can even make your own with Gina’s Cowboy Cookies or Brownie mix in-a-jar. Candied pecans from Slice of Heaven, the most intensely wonderful candied apples from Lolly Marie, and Mauthe’s cheesecake which defies description you can get lost in sugary heaven here. I’m quite sure the streets of Heaven are paved with cookies.

Of course, you also have the added bonus of free range chicken, fresh caught shrimp, pasture raised beef, lots of fresh veggies, the perfect stuffed artichoke, artisan breads and much more. Enjoy the Market it promises to be perfect and have a happy, blessed Easter!

Lots of love,

Charlene LeJeune
