St. John’s Open During Spring for Art, Featuring Live Music

St. John’s invites you out Saturday during Spring for Art to enjoy a fresh cup from one their new primary coffee roasters, flamjeaux. While you are sipping your beverage, you can listen to the tunes of Jeremy Delle. Acoustic performer Josh Foreman will also be on hand Saturday night, who is also performing at Columbia Street Rock n Blues on Friday evening.

Stop in St. John’s during Spring for Art this Saturday, enjoy a cup and listen to some live music. St. John’s normal hours of operation are: M – F, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Located at the corner of Columbia and Boston Streets. Find them on Facebook!

The last Rockin’ the Rails concert of October 2019 will take place this Thursday, Halloween Night!  Featuring a Costume Contest with a Grand Prize of 2 Free spots on a traditional Mardi Gras Float on Carnival Day 2020.  The Covington Trailhead will be rockin’ to Lost In The 60’s from 5 – 7:30 p.m.

Carnival in Covington and the Covington Lion’s Club will serve fried catfish and shrimp dinners to raise money for the City of Covington’s Mardi Gras Parade.

The Covington Farmer’s Market takes place twice a week, Wednesdays at the Covington Trailhead from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. And Saturdays at the 600 Block of Columbia St. (Covington Police Dept.) from 8 a.m. To Noon.  Both markets feature prepared foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, plants and more.  Live music.

Marsolan’s Old Feed Store Music Series continues this week with the Necessary Gentlemen from noon – 1 p.m.  Jam session from 1 – 2 p.m.  Marsolan’s is located at 314 East Gibson Street.

St. John’s Coffeehouse hosts a Scary Story Open Mic with Patty B this Friday! Come out and hear a spooky tune, or play one of your own. St. John’s hosts Open Mic every Friday from 7 to Close.


Field of Screams Takes Place This Saturday
The City of Covington is pleased to announce the 3rd annual Field of Screams to be held at the Covington Recreation Complex, 4001 De Porres Road, on Saturday, October 12, Sunset to 10 pm. This FREE public event promises entertaining thrills and chills for everyone. The Blue Swamp Creek Nature Trail, a natural Louisiana habitat maintained by Keep Covington Beautiful, will be the location at the complex.
“Now that we have two years under our belt, this year will be bigger and better with even more participants,” Aimee Faucheux, Cultural Arts & Events Director. “Our theme is Circus of Chaos which will feature many new scenes guaranteed to startle everyone. It will be a scream!  Be there if you dare!”

Several city staff have contributed their talents and skills to produce this community outreach effort. Our Public Works Department has greatly assisted in setup. Eerie stage scenes created and manned by our Covington Fire Department, Covington Police Department and also Acadian Ambulance are certain to unnerve attendees. Keep Covington Beautiful members have readied the Blue Swamp Creek Trail for display sites.  The “Scream Trail” is suggested for older children, teens and adults (children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). Please, do not wear sandals or flip flops.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Coast Midlife Educational Tradeshow
Council On Aging St. Tammany presents a Midlife Crossroads Educational Tradeshow this Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. At the Fuhrmann Auditorium in Covington.


This event is Free to the Public. Featuring information on healthy lifestyles that includes exercise routines, physical check-ups, dental care, proper nutrition, healthy weight, sleeping patterns and much more.

A City of Covington Comprehensive Plan Update Public Workshop will take place at the Columbia Street Block party this Friday from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.  The topic for this Public Workshop is Visioning.  

Representatives will be canvassing between the 200 and 500 blocks of Columbia Street.  Please join the City in creating a vision for the future of Covington.  Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Bluesberry Festival Saturday

Bluesberry Festival 2019 takes place this Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. At the Bogue Falaya Wayside Park (located 213 Park Drive in Covington.)

General admission is $25 at the gate, children aged 10 and under are free. The festival will take place rain or shine, tickets are non-refundable.
Hard ice chests, outside food & drinks, tents, pets, weapons and bikes are Prohibited Items. Parking is free and available throughout downtown Covington and at the nearby St. Tammany Parish Justice Center. The Gulf Coast Bank Trolley will shuttle patrons from the Justice Center parking areas (701 N. Columbia Street) to Bogue Falaya Park throughout the day.

Second Saturday Art Walk This Weekend

The Second Saturday Art Walk is a great excuse to get out and enjoy everything Historic Downtown Covington has to offer.  Ox Lot Square Townhomes is hosting an open house May 14 and 15 (see back flyer).  Visit your favorite gallery and see who’s showing, new additions downtown include Armbruster, Rolland Golden, Saladino and Rutland Street Gallery.  The St. Tammany Art Association is showing “Expressions of Place”, and Tripolo Gallery is a Columbia Street mainstay. Stop in any of the great restaurants downtown for a quick bite to eat, or a nice leisurely meal.
Enjoy fine dining at Del Porto Ristorante, Ox Lot 9,  Mac’s on Boston and Toad Hollow Cafe, or for a more casual atmosphere, Vazquez Poboys, Buster’s Place or Columbia Street Rock N Blues Cafe.  Get some coffee, dessert or a sandwich at St. John’s Coffeehouse.  Downtown is about to welcome a new bar & grill in the old Wino’s & Tacos location, Hook’d Up will occupy 321 N. Columbia Street.
Nightlife in downtown includes The Tap Room and Seiler Bar with food, drinks and live music, Columbia Street Rock N Blues, also with late night food and DJ Hollywood this Saturday.  The Green Room, now a non-smoking venue, presents The Mockingbirds Saturday, with late night food.
